The Gambia is to be found on the west coast of Africa and is one of the smallest countries in Africa. It has a sub-tropical climate with two variations of distinct dry and rainy seasons, the dry season generally starts in October and ends around mid-June each year. The main feature of the land is predominantly Guinea woodland savannah and Sahelian scrub with mangroves concentrated near the estuary of the River Gambia and along its banks and Bolongs.
Gambian Honey

We support a charity in Gambia called the Sowe family charity who work with many local families to help them market their produce. The honey we are selling comes from the Jawneh Kunda family who have generations of experience with the wild African Honey bees, this knowledge is passed down from father to son and so on. We are very fortunate to be working with this family and also having the chance to support them by selling their honey in this country. Not only do we sell honey on their behalf but over the next few years we will be supplying them with bee suits and processing equipment that will enable them to grow their business and have a better standard of life.
We will post pictures, information and also produce a small documentary about the Jawneh Kunda family on this page in the coming months, this will show you the wild bees that they deal with and manage.
The honey they produce is from wild stocks of bees that inhabit forests near where the family live, it is a very difficult process of managing these bees as they can be quite aggressive and not easy to get to. The honey has a very distinctive tast as you would expect and is used for many purposes in Gambia, the locals use it in traditional medicines for many ailments as well as a food stuff.
We hope you can support this family and try some of their delicious honey.
